Introduction
In the 19th century, the interest to colonize Africa grew. By the late 1800's, France had their first settlements in Africa because they were in a search for wealth and for land to expand their territory into other countries. In 1910, three French imperial colonies in equatorial Africa had been formed and it comprised of a total area of 969,112 square miles. In 1920, Chad was separated from a colony to make the fifth and final colony of Equatorial Africa.
